Kitchen Tools You Need to Make Air Fryer Diced Sweet Potatoes

  • Air Fryer: The key to achieving that crispy outside and tender inside texture without any mess or fuss.
  • Cutting Board: Provides a stable surface for peeling and dicing the sweet potatoes.
  • Vegetable Peeler: Makes it easy to peel the sweet potatoes if you prefer them without skins.
  • Knife: Essential for dicing the sweet potatoes into evenly sized cubes.
  • Large Bowl: For tossing the sweet potatoes with oil and seasonings evenly.

To begin, wash the sweet potatoes and peel them if you like. You can also use unpeeled sweet potatoes too.  Then dice the potatoes into small cubes and place them into a large bowl.

Next, drizzle the diced sweet potatoes with about one tablespoon of olive oil. You can also use any type of vegetable oil you want if you don’t like or have any olive oil in your pantry. Then sprinkle the potatoes with salt and pepper to season and toss them together to evenly coat the diced sweet potatoes.

Now, put the seasoned sweet potatoes into the air fryer and cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.

Then halfway through cooking remove the air fryer basket and shake it so that the sweet potatoes move around. Now, place the basket back into the air fryer to finish cooking. Doing this will help the potatoes to cook evenly and be more crispy.

Once the sweet potatoes are done cooking, remove them from the air fryer basket and put them on your serving dish to enjoy! I like to dip mine in some of my sriracha chili sauce for an added kick or my BBQ sauce for an added zing!

How to Store Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes

Air fried diced sweet potatoes will keep in the fridge for up to one week when stored in a covered container. I don’t suggest freezing air fryer diced sweet potatoes. You can try it, but it doesn’t always work so well. If you do freeze them just make sure it’s in a sealed freezer bag and they will keep for about 3 months.

How to Reheat Air Fried Diced Sweet Potatoes

To reheat, simply put the sweet potatoes in the microwave for about 3 minutes on medium power or in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes. If reheating from frozen, I suggest putting them on a baking sheet in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until they crisp up. This will take varying times depending on the portion size you are reheating, but will be around 20 minutes.

Air Fryer Diced Sweet Potatoes Variations

This recipe is amazing as is with just simple salt and pepper used to season the sweet potatoes. But if you want to add some extra flavor to the sweet potatoes it’s super easy to customize. All you have to do is add any additional herb or spice at the same time that you add the oil, salt, and pepper. Then just toss together and cook as stated in the recipe.

My favorite spice to add to diced sweet potatoes has got to be smoked paprika! It adds a little Spanish flair and a hint of smoky flavor that goes great with the sweetness of the potatoes. Now, for some spice, cayenne pepper adds wonderful heat. I also love to add a touch of rosemary or thyme when making this dish as a side for dinner. So the variations are many and you can be as creative as you like!

What to Serve with Air Fryer Diced Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are so yummy and go with almost everything from breakfast to dinner! These are just a few of my favorite mains to serve with them.

Tips for Success

  • Cut Evenly: For best results, dice the sweet potatoes into evenly sized cubes. This ensures they cook uniformly and prevents some pieces from burning while others remain undercooked.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: Spread the diced sweet potatoes out in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Overcrowding can prevent them from crisping up properly. If making a large batch, cook in multiple rounds.
  • Shake for Even Cooking: Shaking the basket halfway through cooking redistributes the sweet potatoes, helping them brown evenly on all sides.
  • Choose Fresh Sweet Potatoes: Opt for firm sweet potatoes without any soft spots. Fresher potatoes will have a better texture and flavor when cooked.
  • Customize Seasonings: While salt and pepper are classic, don’t hesitate to experiment! Try cinnamon and brown sugar for a sweet twist, or smoked paprika and garlic powder for a savory flavor boost.
  • Adjust Cook Time if Needed: Different air fryers may vary slightly, so keep an eye on your sweet potatoes during the last few minutes. They should be golden brown and fork-tender when done.
  • Serve Immediately: Air fryer diced sweet potatoes are best enjoyed fresh and hot. They may lose some of their crispiness if left out for too long.
