How To Make Frozen Cod in Air Fryer
Such a simple recipe– you’ll get the hang of it right away. Simply unwrap 3-4 pieces of frozen cod and place in a prepped air fryer basket. You can use nonstick spray or brush the basket with oil. This is to ensure the fish doesn’t stick to the basket while cooking.
Place basket in air fryer and set to cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Halfway through cooking time, pull out basket and season fish with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Carefully flip fish over and season the other side as well. Then place basket back in the air fryer.
Cook for remaining 5 minutes, then remove fish from basket and serve.
Cooking Tips
- No need to thaw or defrost– air fryer cooks the fish from frozen
- Wait to add seasonings until halfway through cooking time. The seasonings won’t stick very well to fully frozen fish, so the fillets need to be partially cooked
- Use spatula to carefully flip fish in air fryer basket. Cod will cook up tender and delicate, so keep that in mind as you move the fish during and after cooking
Can You Cook Frozen Cod Without Breading in an Air Fryer?
Absolutely! The air fryer cooks up frozen cod into tender, flakey fish without any extra breading. It’s the perfect way to enjoy fresh fish at your convenience.
Do You Have to Flip Fish in an Air Fryer?
Yes– the fish fillets cook best in the air fryer if you flip them halfway through cooking time. This ensures that they are fully cooked on both sides.

I’ve tried cooking frozen fish before, but this method in the air fryer was by far the best. The cod was crisp on the outside and moist inside. Perfect with a side of veggies.
The cod cooked up beautifully in the air fryer. It was flavorful with just the basic seasonings.
