History of Naan Bread

If you have never had naan before, now is your chance to learn more about it’s history.

Naan is actually derived from the generic new Persian word ‘non’ for bread! However, it is not the type of loaf you find at the grocery store nor is it the same as pita.

Originally from India and Southeastern Asian, naan is a leavened bread that is baked in a clay oven known as a Tandoor. This is why you will often see it referred to as tandoori naan.

A journal from the 1300s even recorded naan as being served in the imperial courts of Delhi in India!
