When the Instant Pot is done cooking, quick release the steam and wait for the pin to drop. It is very important to be careful when releasing the steam. For safety reasons you really want to give the pressure cooker the time it needs to drop the pin before removing the lid.

Cooked Instant Pot great northern beans can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week or in the freezer for up to 3 months. If you choose to freeze the beans you’ll want to allow them to thaw out at room temperature before using.

How to Reheat Cooked Beans

You can reheat cooked great northern beans by putting them in the microwave for about 3 minutes on medium. You can also reheat them on the stove in a saucepan on medium for about 7 to 8 minutes. If you choose the stove method, I suggest adding a little water or stock to the beans to keep them from drying out.

Instant Pot Great Northern Beans Recipe Variations

Great northern beans have a very mild taste, which makes them easy to infuse with flavor. So you can easily add any herbs or spices you want when cooking your beans. Some good choices are thyme, oregano, and basil. Another option for more added flavor is to use stock when cooking the beans in place of the water or even add about a tablespoon of olive oil to the liquid for more depth. You can also season the beans after they are cooked by mixing your herbs or seasonings of choice into the hot beans.
