  1. So happy to have found this! I just bought an Instant Pot and I have to admit, I quit making bacon because of the mess. I know I can microwave it or bake it or broil it, but it’s too much trouble. This looks so easy, and a lot less messy. Life is too short to go without bacon!

      1. With a full package of bacon ends and pieces do I need to stand there and stir or can I put them under pressure? If so, how hot and how long?
        Thanks!

  2. Thank you for this great website. I used this method to make bacon for my picky grandchildren and husband and it turned out perfect. Crispy and not burned. Great! While doing so I made some discoveries I would like to share with the other readers:
My first advice: Be ready to turn the heat down. I started with my Instant Pot on the Saute function with the “High” setting and there was lots of tiny spattering going out of the pot and onto the counter. I pressed Cancel and then Saute on the “Normal” setting and the spattering stopped. The bacon seemed to take longer to cook but still came out crisp. Maybe I’ll go back and forth between the “High” and the “Normal” settings next time.

Another discovery I made was that it was possible to double the bacon over and cook it in a folded position and then unfold it after it cooked on both sides while folded. This way I could get longer strips than you described in your cooking method above. During my cooking the strips shrunk to where they fit in the pot length wise after being unfolded. I was able to unfold it easily enough with my long metal salad serving tongs. I had cut about 3 inches off initially from each piece to make sure they would fit after unfolding, which may not have been necessary.

I rested a potato masher on the bacon to flatten the bacon back onto the pan where it had bulged up off the pan. This was especially useful for the strips that had been unfolded because they had a little bump in the middle where the fold was.

Another discovery I made regarding the cleaning of the inner pot afterward: When done making the bacon, there was lots of stuck-on brown coating on the bottom of the pot. I put a tiny bit of water on it and swirled it around to get it all wetted, put a lid and let it sit 24 hours. I swirled the little bit of water once after about 12 hours. After the remaining 12 hours I scraped at the brown gunk with a plastic scraper and it peeled right off. Very easy. Fortunately I had an extra inner pot to use during the soaking.

Something I read before was to heat a metal pan before putting the food in. This causes the metal molecules to expand and the food will not stick as much afterward. I did use this trick for making the bacon.

Next time I will put some bacon grease in the pan for a starter after the pan is hot and before adding the bacon. I think the bacon will crisp in a layer of hot grease without having to press it to the pan as much with the potato masher.

I will make bacon often now I’ve finally found an easy way with easy cleanup!

Thanks again for your wonderful news that bacon can be cooked in an Instant Pot. I had a great experience with it.

  3. Im curious but if i used frozen bacon can i cook the whole thing in there? Like cook it not on sauté, with a lid? I could defrost it in there then sauté massive? Im new to the pressure cooker and lovin it.
