Brussels sprouts is a very healthy vegetable and it’s also very yummy too! Many people who don’t like brussels sprouts simply never tried the correctly cooked and seasoned brussels sprouts.
The most common mistake people make while cooking brussels sprouts is overcooking them. Just like with most other vegetables, overcooking brussels sprouts will turn them into a disgusting mush! Brussels sprouts should still be somewhat crispy when they are done cooking. When in doubt, undercook! The brussels sprouts continue cooking on their own for a few minutes while they are extremely hot, so they will get even softer. If you cook them to the point that they are soft, they will end up mushy due to this extra internal cooking.
After you cooked them properly, another thing you need to do to make brussels sprouts tasty is season them. And it doesn’t mean drowning them in ranch dressing! All you need to do to bring out the best flavor in brussels sprouts is sprinkle them with salt and pepper and toss them in a little olive oil. Salt and extra-virgin olive oil really enhance the flavor of brussels sprouts.
Recipe: How To Cook Brussels Sprouts In The Microwave
1 lb Brussels sprouts
1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil3/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
Directions For Microwave-Steamed Brussels Sprouts:
Wash the brussels sprouts in a colander under cold running water. Even if your brussels sprouts are pre-washed, wash them anyway since washing adds the correct amount of water to prevent brussels sprouts rom wilting in the microwave.
Put brussels sprouts in a microwave-safe dish and cover. Microwave on High for 4 minutes. Uncover and let stand for 5 minutes.
If desired, cut the brussels sprouts in half (like on the picture above). This is totally optional, that’s just how I prefer to eat my brussels sprouts.
Sprinkle the brussels sprouts with salt and pepper. Drizzle the brussels sprouts with olive oil and toss with your hands to coat.
