Air Fryer Frozen Onion Rings

These deliciously golden and crispy frozen onion rings in the air fryer are as good, if not better than what you would be served in a restaurant! They are always perfectly cooked and have that unmistakable crunchy exterior that makes them taste so good.

I personally have always loved the convenience of frozen foods, but I could never quite manage to get frozen onion rings as crispy as I liked. The oven just couldn’t recreate that tasty crunch that all good onion rings should have. The air fryer, however, creates the perfect texture on the outside of these onion rings while keeping the soft and juicy interior.

No one would ever guess making a patch of perfectly cooked onions would come out of the freezer!

How To Cook Frozen Onion Rings In Air Fryer

To make these delicious frozen onion rings in the air fryer, you will only need to do some very minimal prep work.

Start by spraying the inside of the air fryer basket with a non-stick cooking spray (as an alternative to spray, you can brush the bottom of the basket with vegetable oil, or just skip the spray completely if you prefer).

Put the frozen onion rings in the air fryer basket in a single layer with plenty of space between them.

Cooking Tip:

  • If you need to make extra onion rings, you will need to make multiple batches. If they are overlapped or too close together, the onion rings won’t cook properly and they won’t get as crispy!

Where To Buy Frozen Onion Rings

Frozen onion rings are easy to find in the US as they are sold in all large supermarkets.  In my area, I’ve seen them in Costco, Whole Foods, Aldi, Jewel Osco, Mariano’s, Woodman’s and Trader Joe’s.  Just go to the freezer isle that has frozen french fries and you’ll find frozen onion rings in the same isle. Usually there are multiple brands available, giving you choices of which frozen onion rings to buy.

Best Frozen Onion Rings

For this recipe and the video, I used Season’s Choice brand of frozen onion rings from Aldi – they taste great and are a great value! I also like the following brands and made them in the air fryer as well:

  • Red Robin Frozen Onion Rings
  • Alexia Frozen Onion Rings
  • Ore Ida Gormet Onion Rings
  • Nathan’s Frozen Onion Rings
  • McCain Frozen Onion Rings
  • Market Pantry Frozen Onion Rings

All these onion rings were yummy and crispy when air fried! The air fryer instructions are the same for any brand of onion rings :)

Reheating Onion Rings In Air Fryer

If you have leftover cooked onion rings, you can refrigerate them in a food storage container and then use the air fryer to reheat them later!

To reheat onion rings in the air fryer, air fry them at 380F for 4 minutes (shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time).  If they are not heated through, put them back and air fry for another 2 minutes (or until hot and crispy to your liking).

What To Serve With Air-Fried Onion Rings

For the most part, onion rings make great side dishes for all kinds of meals that you make for your family.

Whenever I make a batch of my favorite chicken tenders, I always make french fries, but sometimes I am just really craving some onion rings! Or, I’ll go all out and serve up some frings (1/2 fries + 1/2 rings). It makes for a delicious, kid-friendly meal that everyone will love.

You can also try serving them alongside these flavorful BBQ chicken legs or these air fryer hamburgers! However, you could even serve them alongside a pear, walnut, and blue cheese salad for a lighter meal with fresh ingredients.

But, make sure you don’t forget to include your favorite dipping sauces as well for even more added flavor!
