Toasted Sugared Slivered Almonds are amazing as a salad topping or a cake topping! They are so crunchy and addictive – you just can’t stop eating them!
If you are looking for a perfect salad topping, you must try these toasted sugared slivered almonds. They transform any ordinary salad into an exciting gourmet dish! Deep toasted nutty flavor with caramelized sugary crunch – what can be better than that? Just warning you – if you prepare these in advance before the salad, there might be none left by the time you get to the salad making!
Toasted sugared slivered almonds are a dangerous thing to have in your pantry closet. You will be walking by, putting your fingers in a jar and grabbing a handful, then licking the crumbs off the palm of your hand – these almonds just taste so amazing!
These almonds are perfect in any green salad – no matter what other ingredients are in it, these crunchy sweet almonds will fit right in. I especially like adding them to salads that have bitter leafy greens, such as kale, collards and arugula. The sweetness and nuttiness of the sugared almonds perfectly balances out the strong taste of the bitter greens and elevates the salad to the whole new level. If you are not a fan of dark leafy greens, you must give them another try with these toasted sugared almonds – you will be an instant convert!
In addition to using these delicious almonds as salad topping, you can use them for topping cakes and other desserts. You can also serve them in a bowl as an appetizer or snack – let your guests decide what to sprinkle them on :) Toasted sugared slivered almonds are also a great addition to a cheese tray!
If toasted sugared almonds sounds too fancy for you and you are just not the type of person who normally makes this kind of stuff, I have great news for you: making these almonds is very easy and takes about 5 minutes from start to finish! You don’t need any special equipment – all you need is a non-stick frying pan. There are only 3 ingredients that you need: almonds, butter and sugar. Melt the butter in a frying pan, add sugar, then add almonds and toss until they start to brown – that’s all there is to it. Give this recipe a try – you’ll be glad you did!

I love sweet, crunchy almonds on my salads! Will have to try this recipe. :)
Give it a try, if you like sweet and crunchy you are going to love it!
These slivered almonds sounds very dangerous indeed, for sure only a few would make it to the salad lol.
They are so addictive, I just can’t stop eating these almonds when they are around :)
These are for sure, dangerous… I do not think they will make it to the salad :). I’ve just got a cake from Costco and its side is covered with these sugared almonds.. I kept picking them off the cake :))))).
LOL I told ya ;)
I love caramelised nuts in salads! They give it such a nice sweet crunch. Never thought to use slivered almonds though-very clever! :D
I have a recipe for regular candied nuts that I often make too, but a big advantage of slivered almonds over whole is that there are MORE pieces :)
Butter and sugar?! They sound like they turn into toffee-ish almonds. That’s awesome. Just the right thing to give holiday dishes that festive crunch.
Yep, you just can’t go wrong with butter and sugar!
So good Melanie. I’m afraid I would be eating them straight out of my hand. Not sure there would be many left for toppings. But I would try!
That’s exactly what happens in our house – most of these almonds get eaten before making it into the salad!
I think these should become a staple ingredient for the holiday season :)
Yes, these are perfect for the holidays (and year round)!
I’m sitting here LITERALLY planning my Christmas Eve salad, and now I have the perfect topping – thank you! :)
Great timing :) Hope you enjoy it!
Almonds are my favourite nut! I love their flavour, and the sound of them toasted with sugar makes them sound even more amazing! Such a great idea to add them to salads too. Yum!
Yes, toasting the nuts with sugar takes them to a whole new level!
I loveeee doing things like this to nuts! These sound delicious! Happy holidays!!
Thanks, Ashley! Happy Holidays to you too!
I’ve eaten a lot of candied nuts but never sugared almonds. I’m so eager to do this!
Using slivered almonds vs. whole gives you more bang for your buck, as there are more pieces :)
What a lovely festive recipe that would make a great gift. I do love sugared almonds. Merry Christmas to you and all your family, Melanie xx
Thank you! That’s a great idea about the homemade gift! Putting these sugared almonds in a cute little jar to give as a gift would be awesome! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Love these! They are the perfect topping for salad, and I like your suggestion to add them to bitter greens, I bet they compliment them perfectly!
Yes, they balance out bitter green really nicely! I just posted a recipe for a kale salad with orange slices and these toasted sugared almonds, check it out, it’s delicious!
These are technically sliced almonds, not slivered. But that’s good! I was looking for a recipe for candied sliced almonds and found this one.
Another winner recipe from you! I inadvertently made a batch with three times the amount of almonds (so I added sugar and butter to total doubling those amounts) and while stirring took MUCH longer, it turned out fabulously. Hoping they induce Hubby to eat more salads! :)
Just airtight room temp storage, eh? No need to freeze or refrigerate? Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it, Lori! I always store these at room temperature.
Sorry I’m a little late to the party but just made these to top a Olive Oil Cake with buttercream frosting. They turned out great. Thanks!
I made these for a strawberry/Spinach Salad with poppyseed dressing they are delicious!
Easy and delicious!!
These are delicious. I am wondering what the best way to store them is?
on the counter in air-tight container

Great tip for balancing out bitter greens with a sweet, nutty crunch.
