Instant Pot Asparagus Recipe

Before I got my Instant Pot, I used to always cook asparagus in the microwave.  Now that I have my Instant Pot, I actually prefer to cook asparagus in it – the asparagus cooks evenly in it and turns out so perfectly cooked and juicy!  And it’s super easy, especially compared to traditional stove-top steamed asparagus! No need to mess around with a pot of boiling water and an awkward steamer basket!

How To Cook Asparagus In Instant Pot

Cooking asparagus in the Instant Pot is extremely easy.  Just put 1/2 cup of boiling water and any quantity of trimmed asparagus to the Instant Pot, close the lid, turn the valve to a Sealing position, press the “Pressure Cook” or “Manual” button and set the time to ZERO minutes on High pressure.  When the Instant Pot beeps that it’s done cooking, quick release (QR) the steam.  Perfectly steamed asparagus is ready!  Take the asparagus out of the pot, sprinkle with salt and pepper or other seasoning (garlic powder works great) and enjoy!

If you are a long-time reader of my website, you know I use the “zero minutes” technique for all quick-cooking vegetables in the Instant Pot, such as Instant Pot broccoli, cauliflower and green beans.  Basically, the asparagus cooks while the Instant Pot is coming to pressure, and once it comes to full pressure, the cooking should be stopped immediately (therefore zero minutes active pressure cooking time) so the asparagus doesn’t become overcooked.

If your Instant Pot comes with a trivet, you can put your asparagus on it or you can just dump it in the water like I do. To me the trivet is just one extra thing to wash, so I’m known for dumping things directly in the Instant Pot :)  No matter which way you put your asparagus in the pot, Instant Pot asparagus turns out absolutely perfect!

Worked perfectly. I boiled the water as mentioned in the narrative. For my taste , it could have used another 30 seconds, so maybe not boiling the water, or just letting it sit for another few seconds before releasing the pressure.
    Thanks so much!!
