Roasted Figs Recipe

Have you only been eating figs in their dried form? Dried figs are yummy, but you owe it to yourself to try them fresh! Just like raisins are dried grapes but don’t taste too much like grapes, fresh figs taste quite different from dried figs.  In dried figs, the sugar is so concentrated and overwhelming that it overpowers the taste of the real fig.  When you try the fresh fig on its own, you’ll be quite surprised to learn that it’s not really that sweet! The sweetness of the figs depends on the variety – some are sweeter than others, and you just don’t know which one you are going to get :) In fact, tasting fresh figs for the first time is quite shocking as they don’t really taste anything like the dried ones!

Have you ever tried roasted figs? Once you try it, you won’t be able to get enough! I call roasted figs a happy medium between the fresh and dried figs.  You get the sweetness that you are accustomed to plus the amazing fresh flavor that truly shines through! Roasted figs is the best of both words and my favorite way to eat figs!

Roasted Figs With Ice Cream

Fresh figs are seasonal – their first season is the first two weeks of June and the second season is August through October.  So if you see fresh figs in a supermarket, buy them right away as they might no longer be there when you shop next time. And now you have a perfect recipe to make with fresh figs – definitely make roasted figs!

There are several ways to eat roasted figs.  You can eat them as dessert, as a snack or as a side dish.  Roasted figs are amazing over ice cream, as a topping for cakes or other dessert, as a breakfast topping for pancakes, french toast or baked oatmeal, or alongside savory meat dishes like chicken kebobs.

Amazing deep flavor of roasted figs with caramelized sugar and cinnamon will enhance any meal!  These roasted figs look so impressive and gourmet – talk about fancy :)  They are epic as part of the cheese platter! Best of all, it only takes 10 minutes to make them! You won’t believe how easy it is to make roasted figs – all you need to do is slice the figs in half, dip in sugar and cinnamon and broil them for 4 minutes!

  1. The roasted fig recipe- looks good – I couldn’t find what temperature the oven needs to be- to broil the figs for 4 minutes

  2. My landlord brought figs from his garden. Fresh and green skin, not dark like in photo. Can I still do this recipe?

  3. Another roasted fig recipe you should try uses goat cheese and prosciutto ham. Cut the figs in half, smear goat cheese (or feta or blue cheese–whatever you have on hand) on the cut side, wrap the figs with prosciutto ham and then broil cut side up for around four minutes. The sugars in the figs caramelize without the need for added sugar, and the interplay between the figs’ natural sweetness and the salty umami of the cheese and ham is absolutely marvelous.

    1. I used goat cheese when I have it. Cream cheese will do. Mix with pecans, thyme and honey. Wrap with bacon that has been cooked a bit Broil till bacon is done. Sprinkle with balsamic reduction. So good!.
