Mushroom rice can be served as a side dish or a main dish.  Mushrooms are full of protein, so mushroom rice is actually a complete vegan meal that will leave you stuffed.  But it can also be used as a side with other delicious dishes – it goes well with any savory foods!

Mushroom Rice Made With Brown Rice

Mushroom rice has extremely deep flavor because the rice is cooked together with the mushrooms, so the flavors really blend together.  If you cooked the rice and the mushrooms separately and just mixed it together, the flavor wouldn’t be quite the same!

Making mushroom rice is really easy.  First you pan-fry the sliced mushrooms and onions, then add rice and water to them and cook the rice as usual!  When the rice finishes cooking, it’s flavored with mushrooms and tastes so good!

You can make mushroom rice with white or brown rice, just cook that rice the same way you always cook it, except add mushrooms to it!  You can also use any type of rice cooking method, such as rice cooker or even microwave!  See my instructions for perfect rice cooker brown rice and rice cooker white rice.

Mushroom Rice In A Rice Cooker

If you are using a rice cooker to make mushroom rice, first cook mushrooms and onions in a frying pan, then transfer them to the rice cooker, add rice and water, close the rice cooker and press the Cook button.  When the timer beeps, mushroom rice is ready!

Mushroom Rice Recipe With White Or Brown Rice

This mushroom rice is so full of flavor, you can taste the mushrooms in every bite! This stuff is so addictive! This is the only mushroom rice recipe you'll ever need! So easy to make and you can use white or brown rice!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups white or brown rice
  • 1 package 16 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 3 cups water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until soft and browned. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add rice and water to the pot and mix with the mushrooms. Bring water to boil, then reduce heat to the lowest simmer, cover and cook for 15 minutes if using white rice (or 40 minutes if using brown rice).
  • Mix the cooked mushroom rice and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

You can also cook mushroom rice in a rice cooker. Just put cooked mushrooms in a rice cooker, add rice and water and cook in rice cooker as usual.
