Costco is the only place where I buy smoked salmon.  Costco smoked salmon is a very good quality wild salmon, and it costs half of what other places charge for smoked salmon!

The smoked salmon from Costco is the Kirkland brand, and the package size is 1 lb.  A great thing is that this Costco salmon is packaged in 2 separate packages (8 oz each) that are connected together to add up to 1 lb of salmon.  The packages are individually sealed, which means you are opening just 8 ounces of smoked salmon at a time, so you don’t have to worry about eating the whole pound of smoked salmon within a week of opening.

The Costco salmon is no ordinary smoked salmon – it’s a Wild Alaskan Smoked Sockeye salmon, and it tastes great. This particular salmon has a natural red color – no artificial colors added!

Here’s the description from the back of the package of Kirkland smoked salmon:

“In the ice cold waters off the coast of Alaska, our Kirkland Signature Wild Alaskan Smoked Sockeye Salmon is caught fresh and immediately frozen, ensuring the freshest and highest quality of sockeye salmon available.  These Sockeye are specially selected to ensure the highest quality with their distinctive red color.  Sockeye Salmon are a natural source of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids.

Kirkland Signature Wild Alaskan Smoked Sockeye Salmon is cold-smoked using time-honored traditions and minimal ingredients: salt, brown sugar and natural wood smoke.  Kirkland Signature Wild Alaskan Smoked Sockeye Salmon comes pre-sliced and ready to eat.  Try it with a bagel and cream cheese.  Also try it as an appetizer, in a salad, a sandwich or a main entree”.

Smoked salmon is very healthy – it is low in calories and fat and high in protein.  Here’s the nutritional information for Costco smoked salmon: serving size 2 oz, 70 calories, 1.5 g total fat, zero saturated fat, zero trans fat, 10 mg cholesterol, 650mg sodium, 2 grams of total carb, 13 g of protein, 2% of vitamin C.

Many brands of smoked salmon have a long list of artificial ingredients, but this Kirkland smoked salmon has a very short and easy ingredient list.  The ingredients are sockeye salmon, salt, brown sugar and natural wood smoke.  It’s so refreshing to see an ingredient list that you actually understand, without those creepy chemicals!

I always have a package of these Costco salmon in my refrigerator.  It’s a great meal to have on hand!  I eat it on sandwiches, bagels, as a main dish, add it to omelettes and also put it on top of the green salad – check out this delicious main dish salad recipe with smoked salmon.

  1. A little late, but been searching around trying to find this at costco. Is it in the frozen foods or somewhere else?
