This Sticky Sesame Cauliflower is the perfect easy recipe when you are craving something crispy, saucy, and full of bold flavor. The cauliflower bakes until lightly golden, then gets tossed in a sticky sesame sauce with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sriracha, and a touch of sweetness. Serve it right away over rice or noodles for a delicious vegetarian meal that tastes better than takeout.
Preheat the oven to 200°C / 392°F and line a baking tray with foil or parchment paper.
Cut the cauliflower into similar-sized florets so they bake evenly.
In a small bowl, whisk together the rice flour, cornstarch, oil, garlic powder, and water until you have a smooth, thick batter.
Coat the cauliflower florets in the batter, then arrange them in a single layer on the prepared baking tray.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the cauliflower is just done and lightly golden. Do not overcook it, so it keeps some crunch.
While the cauliflower bakes, combine sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sriracha, minced ginger, and minced garlic in a small saucepan and cook for 5 to 6 minutes.
Whisk together 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1/4 cup water, add it to the simmering sauce, and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the honey, or add maple syrup while the sauce is cooking.
Toss the baked cauliflower with the sticky sesame sauce, garnish with sesame seeds, spring onions, and sliced chillis, and serve immediately.
Notes
For a vegan-friendly version, use maple syrup instead of honey.
Serve the cauliflower right after tossing it with the sauce so it stays crispy on the outside and soft inside.
