Ingredients

  • 28 oz frozen French fries
  • 1 ½ tsp brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 4 tbsp ranch dressing plus extra for serving
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 cups medium cheddar cheese freshly shredded

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to the temperature listed on the fries package. Line baking sheets with foil and spray with cooking spray.
  • In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Spread fries on baking sheets, sprinkle seasoning over them, and toss to coat evenly in a single layer.
  • Bake according to package directions, flipping or rotating pans if needed for even crisping.
  • While fries cook, melt butter in a skillet over medium-low heat, then whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  • Slowly whisk in milk and cook until the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Add shredded cheese gradually, stirring until fully melted and smooth.
  • Reduce heat to low and keep sauce warm, adding a little milk if it becomes too thick.
  • Place cooked fries on a plate, spoon cheese sauce over the top, and drizzle with ranch dressing.
  • Sprinkle with extra seasoning if desired and serve immediately with additional sauce and ranch.

Notes

  • Freshly shredded cheese melts smoother and gives you the best creamy texture.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan, use two baking sheets so the fries turn out crispy.
