Oven-Baked Chicken With Panko

You’ll love this tasty chicken dish for an easy dinner that’s kid-friendly. It’s tender chicken covered in crunchy breadcrumbs that get all crispy in the oven. Plus, making this chicken is super simple!

You start with chicken pieces, then you dip them in some mayo, and after that, you coat them with panko breadcrumbs – they’re like super crunchy breadcrumbs that make the chicken extra crispy. How To Make Baked Panko Chicken

Preheat the oven to broil. This is the perfect setting for crispy, crunchy breading.

Pour 3/4 cup of breadcrumbs onto a plate. We chose these seasonings: salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Use a fork to stir the seasonings into the breadcrumbs.

Next, coat chicken pieces in 1/2 Tbsp of mayo. Rub it in and cover both sides of the chicken.

Dip each piece of chicken in the breadcrumbs and press to adhere panko to chicken. Lay chicken pieces on foil-lined baking sheet.

Place baking sheet on top rack and broil for 4 minutes. Remove baking sheet from oven and use tongs to carefully flip chicken over. Place baking sheet back in oven and cook for another 4 minutes.

Once cooking time is up, use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature of the chicken is at least 165 degrees.

If the chicken is done, use tongs to move chicken to serving platter.

Cooking Tips

  • This recipe works with chicken tenders or thinly-sliced chicken breasts
  • Use any seasonings of your choice, or you can skip them entirely if the breadcrumbs already have seasonings
  • Line the baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy clean-up

How Do You Get Panko To Stick To Chicken?

You can use mayo or a beaten egg as “glue” for the breadcrumbs. Also be sure to press the chicken into the panko to help it adhere to the chicken.
