Perfect Oven Baked Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a perfect healthy side dish!  Even though it’s counter-intuitive that something “sweet” can be healthy, sweet potatoes are actually much better for you than regular white potatoes.  Something so delicious that’s actually good for you – that’s always a great find!  Plus these baked sweet potatoes are so easy to make – what a perfect recipe to make anytime!

High oven temperatures make sweet potatoes caramelized – they taste absolutely delicious! When in a pinch, you can bake a sweet potato in a microwave in 5 minutes, but nothing compares to the taste and texture of oven-baked sweet potatoes! Roasting brings out the natural sugar and gives them this deep caramelized flavor – mouthwatering!  Roasted sweet potatoes are so creamy and smooth inside and so flavorful!

How To Make Oven Baked Sweet Potatoes

Baking sweet potatoes in the oven is the easiest way of cooking them (aside from microwaving).  Peeling and cutting tough raw sweet potatoes is always a chore, and the great news is that for this recipe you don’t need to do that! Since you are baking the sweet potatoes whole, no cutting and peeling is needed – yay! Just rub sweet potatoes with oil, pierce with a fork and put in the oven for an hour – that’s all there is to it! Stick them in the oven and forget about them – the oven does all the work!

Baked sweet potatoes are very versatile – you can eat them as a side dish with a little butter, maple syrup and cinnamon, or you can use them as a base for another recipe such as mashed sweet potatoes or sweet potato muffins.  Here’s a very impressive holiday dish you would love making with them – sweet potato casserole with marshmallows – scoop out the sweet potato flesh and mash it, put in a casserole dish, top with marshmallows and bake until marshmallows are roasted – YUM!

How To Bake Sweet Potatoes In The Oven

Step 1: Rub sweet potatoes with oil

Make sure your sweet potatoes are fully dry (after you wash them, dry with paper towels).  Put sweet potatoes on parchment paper lined baking sheet and pour olive oil over them.
